Happy Birthday Sweetpea!

Becoming a mommy exactly six years ago was the most incredible thing that could every happen to me...isn't it amazing how much you can love someone you've never even met until the moment you lay eyes on them? Those babies, they do stuff to ya! We're celebrating tonight with the fam - shrimp and grits per Celi's request. Southern much? Party review tomorrow!

Twofer Tuesday

So at Celi's school, they have the children use a plastic drawstring bag to keep their library books in when they bring them to school. Don't ask me why - that's just how it is. Anyway, at the very beginning of the year, they all had to sign a piece of paper saying that they would keep up with their bag and if they didn't, they would have to pay a dollar to replace it. Well, Celi lost hers and when I found this out, I told Lawton that I thought she should have to use her own money. (Learning responsibility and all that, you know.) So yesterday, Lawt is getting a dollar out of her piggy bank to send for the new bag. She looks at him and asks what he's doing so he tells her that she is replacing her library bag with her piggy bank money. She looks at him and shrieks, "Get it out of YOUR wallet - that's MY money!!!" Not happy about spending "her" money AT ALL.

In more Celi related news, the poor thing broke her wrist and is a cast up to her armpit. The fracture is not horrible, but both bones have a crack in them so they have to keep her totally immobile for a while so the bones don't shift. She was NOT pleased about the cast situation at all but she rallied and chose a superior color combination for herself - pink and green stripes!!! Anyway, we go back at the end of the month to recheck it, so hopefully she can go to a short cast then. I'll keep you posted! Pics to follow...

Hot time in the big town

So I drove to Columbia yesterday evening to go to Maroon 5 with Tara. We hung at her house for a little while then headed over to see the show. While walking in, who did I spy but Dena, Leigh Ann and her cute hubby whose name I can't remember (sorry!). Funny that I haven't seen her in two months and then run into her at a concert in Columbia. I should have guess that my girl would be where da party at! The show was good - they sound very good in person, which is always a pleasant surprise. Tara and I decided that it may make us old farts to say this, but we think NO ONE is as good as DMB live when they were at their peak. Now THAT was off the hook! Dena says that Maroon V should change their name to "Adam Levine and the 4 effers who back him up", which was pretty much the case. Funny stuff.

The best part of the evening took place around 12:00 AM on my way home where I had an unscheduled appointment with a state trooper around Orangeburg. It turns out that the police do not approve of going 84 mph in a 70 mph zone when it is raining. Note to self - no speeding when raining. Oh well, better luck next time.

Where has the time gone?!

So last week was pretty consumed with Will's medication management and a very large project at work. The thing with Will is getting there but we are still trying to tweak his dosing schedule a little bit in order to maximize the effectiveness using the most minimal dosage. So far his school behavior is very improved (thank God!) so we are very pleased with that but we'd like to get to a point where he is doing well in the evenings as well.

I did have time to squeeze in some fun stuff too though - last Thursday Dottie and I took a cooking class at Charleston Cooks! with Catherine and two of her friends. Toooo much fun! I loved it and would definitely recommend it to do either with a significant other or a group of girlfriends. Very cool.

Friday night we went to the gym, then cooked some shrimp that I bought here in the hood (at a bargain basement price of $1.99 a pound). Tasted really good but the smell in my hurbie curbie is completely out of control. It looks like one of the plagues of Egypt with all the flies swarming around. Wednesday (trash day) can not come soon enough!

Saturday we packed up and went to the river for some outdoor fun. The weather was FABULOUS! Breezy, warm, low humidity, good water temperature, etc. We boated, crabbed, swam, fished, ate, picked pecans and pears and generally just enjoyed ourselves. When I die and (hopefully) go to heaven, I hope it looks and feels just like the Toogoodoo River did Saturday! We only had one mishap and that was swamping the tube while Celi was on it AGAIN. Poor kid - every time I convince her that it will be fine, something happens and she gets dumped into the river. Oh well, hopefully she will keep trying.

Yesterday, was laaaaazy! Will and I took a nap in the middle of the day and no one but Lawton was dressed until about 2:00. We wrapped up the evening with some takeout from Moe's and Return of the Jedi - what more could anyone ask for???

Thanks to everyone who still checks in on me even though I am inconsistent with my blogging!
